Asset Investigation in California

Focused asset investigation representation by Sari Law Firm. Part of our Commercial Collection practice. Free consultation, transparent pricing, and clear communication at every step.

What is Asset Investigation?

Asset investigation is the work of identifying a debtor's collectible assets, bank accounts, employment, real property, vehicles, business interests, accounts receivable, retirement funds. Without knowing where the assets are, judgment enforcement is paper. Investigation tools include public records searches, debtor examinations, third-party records demands, and skip tracing.

When you might need this service

  • You have a judgment but do not know where the debtor's assets are.
  • Pre-suit, you want to evaluate whether a debtor is collectible before committing to litigation costs.
  • A debtor is claiming inability to pay and you want to verify the claim before negotiating down.
  • A debtor is suspected of hiding or transferring assets to defeat collection.

How Sari Law Firm helps

We run skip tracing through commercial databases, search public records (real property, business filings, vehicle registrations, UCC-1s), conduct judgment debtor examinations under oath, issue third-party subpoenas to banks and employers, and trace asset transfers when fraudulent-conveyance recovery is on the table. Findings drive the enforcement strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions about Asset Investigation.

The questions we field most often, answered the same way we'd answer them on a first call, without filler and without disclaimers that are not required.

Q.How much does asset investigation cost?
A.After your free consultation you receive a written engagement letter with the price in it. Most asset investigation work in our collection process group is flat-fee, so you know the cost before we start. Matters that turn contested are billed by the hour and itemized.
Q.How long does asset investigation take?
A.Demand in 7 days · Pre-lit 30–60 days · Litigation 4–12 months. Your asset investigation timeline depends on facts we cover in the consultation, and we give you the realistic range before you engage rather than after.
Q.Do I need asset investigation or a different commercial collection service?
A.Asset Investigation sits in our Collection Process group. If your situation is better served by another commercial collection service, we tell you in the consultation and point you to it instead of opening the wrong matter.
Q.Will I work directly with an attorney on my asset investigation matter?
A.Yes. From the first call through resolution you communicate directly with the attorney handling your asset investigation matter, never a call center. We represent clients across California, remotely or in person at our Irvine office.
